Netflix Adds Becoming Led Zeppelin – But Not For Everyone

TV Answer Man, I read that Netflix has added the new documentary on Led Zeppelin but I can’t seem to watch it on my Netflix plan? What gives? – Zack, Port Republic, Maryland.

Zack, Netflix yesterday did add Becoming Led Zeppelin, the first band-authorized documentary which features fresh interviews with lead singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones. The doc, which was released in theaters this year, has generated strong praise from critics and viewers for its candid retrospective on the hard-charging (and hard-living) group’s enormous success in the 1970s and beyond.

However, for Netflix viewers who subscribe to the streamer’s $7.99 a month Standard With Ads plan, the addition of Becoming Led Zeppelin is a real Heartbreaker that is leaving them Dazed and Confused.

Netflix says that, due to “licensing restrictions,” Standard With Ads plan subscribers are not able to watch Becoming Led Zeppelin. If they want to watch the documentary, they will have to upgrade their plans to either the Standard Without Ads package for $17.99 a month or the Premium plan which is $24.99 a month. Since both plans cost at least $10 more a month than the ads-included package, it would be no surprise if some subscribers will respond, ‘Babe, I’m Gonna’ Leave You.’

This is not the first time that Netflix has imposed a restriction on the cheaper plan. Saturday Night, the 2024 movie based on the first episode of the NBC late night comedy show, is also on the no-watch list for Standard With Ads subscribers.

Some Netflix subs are feeling dazed and confused over this message.
