Fox revealed today in a press statement that it will launch a standalone streaming service this fall before the 2025 NFL and college football seasons.

The service, which will be called Fox One, will include a live feed of the local Fox affiliate as well as other Fox properties including Fox Sports, Fox News, Fox Business, the Big Ten Network, FS1 and FS2, among others.

Fox did not reveal pricing details nor a specific launch date. The service will not require a subscription to a pay TV service such as cable or satellite. Fox executives said Fox One would target consumers who have already cut the cord rather than existing pay TV subscribers.

That’s also the objective of Disney officials who disclosed last week that it will launch its standalone ESPN service this fall. The company is expected to reveal the name and other details later this week but CNBC reports that it will be called ESPN, the same name as the basic cable version.

Disney has also not revealed pricing details but it’s likely to be around $30 a month or less, according to various analysts.

Update: ESPN says the standalone streamer will be $29.99 a month.

The company says ESPN+, which offers some programming from ESPN as well as some unique coverage for $11.99 a month, will continue to exist.

Disney says ESPN subscribers on cable/satellite and live streaming services will be able to use the new ESPN standalone app without an extra cost by inputting their pay TV user name and password. This is intended to help pay TV services from losing subscribers.

However, the launch of ESPN and Fox as standalone services will give pay TV sports fans yet another reason to cut the cord.
