DIRECTV Adds 6 More Free Channels, Including Sports

DIRECTV’s free ad-supported streaming service called, MyFreeDIRECTV, has added six new channels, bringing its overall total to 101.

The six new channels are:

ABC News Live
The broadcast network’s digital service offering 24/7 live news and documentaries.

ABC Localish
ABC’s digital multicast channel for local programming with an emphasis on lifestyle and ‘feel-good’ shows.

ESPN: The Ocho
The ESPN streaming channel offers live and recorded competition in niche sports such as rock climbing; (The channel was inspired by a scene in the Ben Stiller comedy, Dodgeball.)

20/20
The channel is dedicated to ABC’s investigative news show, 20/20, featuring interviews, long-form reports, and other news related programming.

beIN Sports Xtr
The sports channel’s digital free service which emphasizes soccer, combat and adventure sports as well as studio shows.

Military Heroes
The channel chronicles historical moments when military personnel performed heroic feats.

The free service, which is available to both DIRECTV subscribers and non-DIRECTV consumers, includes both live channels and on-demand programming. You can watch the free channels by creating a DIRECTV account at DIRECTV.com and then going to the DIRECTV Stream app or this web page.

MyFreeDIRECTV launched last November with roughly 70 channels. The TV provider plans to continue adding channels in the coming weeks and months.

DIRECTV hopes to generate significant advertising revenue as well as attract consumers who might subscribe after watching the free channels. The service is accessible nationwide online, via mobile, and on select smart TVs and streaming devices.
