TV Answer Man, I’ve read some of the coverage on DIRECTV’s new sports plan. Do you know exactly which channels it has before I subscribe? — Tommy, Des Moines, Iowa.
Tommy, DIRECTV today introduced a new all-sports plan called MySports that the satcaster’s press release says includes roughly 40 channels for $70 a month. (You can get the first three months for $50 a month and there’s also a five-day free trial.)
The new package is initially available in 24 markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. You can learn more about the lineup and markets at the MySports site here.
But before you decide to subscribe, you probably want to know exactly which channels are in the plan, right? And does it really include 40 channels?
Well, before giving you the list, let me note that MySports does not include regional sports channels or CBS. In addition, NBC, ABC and Fox are not available in some markets at launch. DIRECTV says it hopes to secure agreements with CBS and the remainder of the ABC, NBC and Fox affiliates in the coming months.
In addition, a DIRECTV spokesman tells The TV Answer Man that it plans to add your local regional sports network as an add-on in the future.
Now that said, here’s the complete list of channels now available in DIRECTV’s MySports, according to the MySports web page:
ACC Network
Local ABC (in select markets)
BIG 10 Network
CNBC
CNN
DIRECTV 4K Live
ESPN
ESPN2
ESPNews
ESPNU
Fox Business Network
Fox Local (select markets)
Fox News Channel
FS1
FS2
Golf Channel
MLB Network
MSNBC
NBA TV
NBC Local (select markets)
NFL Network
NHL Network
SEC Network
TBS
TNT
truTV
USA Network
If you’re counting at home, that’s 27 channels, not 40. But DIRECTV says MySports subscribers will also have access to 17 free sports channels that are available to anyone at DIRECTV’s free streaming service, MyFreeDIRECTV. That would put the list over 40 channels although, once again, anyone can already watch the free channels without subscribing to MySports. So you’re actually only paying for the 27 channels – and it’s less than that if you don’t get the ABC, Fox and NBC affiliates in your market.
The 17 channel freebies are:
ACC Digital Network
Big 12
Fight Network
Pickleball
Fuel TV
Origin Sports
Players TV
Sports Grid Live
Stadium
Surfer TV
Swerve Combat
The Jim Rome Show
T2
TNA
Torque
Waypoint TV
Women’s Sports Network
