Hulu this week (December 29, 2024-January 4, 2025) plans to add 55 new TV shows and movies to its subscription Video on Demand lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion.

Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2025
Dick Clark is still dead so he won’t be joining the fun. But if you missed the big ball dropping in New York’s Times Square, you can watch a reprise of ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve special starring the ubiquitous Ryan Seacrest and co-host, Rita Ora. The scheduled performers include Lenny Kravitz, Jonas Brothers, Teddy Swims, and Alanis Morisette. Well, isn’t that ironic? Debuts Wednesday, January 1.

Going Dutch – Series Premiere (Fox)
Denis Leary stars as a U.S. army colonel who’s hired to bring order and discipline to a band of military outcasts in the Netherlands. Sounds like the perfect vehicle for Leary’s abrasive style of humor. The supporting cast includes Taylor Misiak, Danny Pudi, Laci Mosley and Hal Cumpston. Debuts Friday, January 3.

Heat (1995)
Michael Mann’s classic heist film pits master thief Robert De Niro against world-weary detective Al Pacino in a battle for the ages. This is the first film the two acting legends appeared in the same scene together, and while they share the screen for less than 10 minutes, it’s like watching Michael Jordan play Kobe Bryant in their primes. The intensity pours off the screen as they attempt (even if not consciously) to outdo the other. Almost lost in the novelty of having De Niro and Pacino in the same film is Mann’s incredible vision and direction of Heat which holds your attention for nearly three hours as if it were three minutes. It’s a whirlwind of a movie and increasingly getting recognition as one of the best ever. Debuts Wednesday, January 1.
