TV Answer Man, I am thinking of getting DIRECTV Stream because it has lot of sports channels but it is very expensive. Before I subscribe, could you do a story on which regional sports channels it has because that is what concerns me. I want to know which ones they have before I pay all that money. If they don’t have the one in my area, it’s no good to me. Plus, I may be moving soon and that makes life even more complicated! — Carl, Reston, Virginia.

Carl, I hear you. DIRECTV and DIRECTV Stream arguably carry more sports channels than any other TV provider but subscribing to either one is not inexpensive or possibly convenient.

DIRECTV’s satellite Choice plan, the cheapest plan it has with regional sports networks, has a regular rate of $89.99 a month and you have to sign a two-year agreement which comes with financial penalties ($20 a month for every month left in your agreement) if you cancel early.

DIRECTV Stream’s Choice package, its cheapest RSN-included plan, starts at $114.99 a month. That’s a lot of money to shell out just so you can watch your local teams on an RSN. Stream doesn’t include a contract or a regional sports fee so that helps somewhat. (DIRECTV’s Choice plan on satellite does include an additional RSN fee.)

Both DIRECTV satellite and DIRECTV Stream now are offering a discount to new subscribers who sign up. (It’s $10 off a month for satellite for two years and $20 off each of the first three months for Stream.) But I can understand why someone would be hesitant to subscribe without knowing with certainty what you’re getting.

So, with that in mind, here is a list of the regional sports networks on both DIRECTV and DIRECTV Stream.

RSNs on DIRECTV and DIRECTV Stream

Altitude Sports and Entertainment
Chicago Sports Network
FanDuel Detroit
FanDuel Florida
FanDuel Great Lakes

FanDuel Indiana
FanDuel Kansas City
FanDuel Midwest
FanDuel North
FanDuel Ohio

FanDuel Oklahoma
FanDuel SoCal
FanDuel South
FanDuel Southeast
FanDuel Southwest

FanDuel Sun
FanDuel West
FanDuel Wisconsin
Marquee Sports Network
Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN)

Monumental Sports Network
MSG Network
MSG Plus
MSG Western New York
NBC Sports Bay Area

NBC Sports Boston
NBC Sports California
New England Sports Network (NESN)
ROOT Sports Northwest
Space City Home Network

Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles)
Spectrum SportsNet LA
SportsNet New York (SNY)
Sportsnet Pittsburgh
YES Network

Update: DIRECTV has added the new Texas Rangers Sports Network

In addition, DIRECTV and DIRECTV Stream carry some of the local stations that are now broadcasting games for teams which lost their RSN contracts to companies such as Diamond Sports (FanDuel Networks) and Warner Bros. Discovery. Basically, the only RSN not on DIRECTV is NBC Sports Philadelphia which is a story onto itself. You can read it here.

The TV provider that comes closest to matching DIRECTV’s RSN lineup is Fubo, which is also slightly cheaper. But Fubo doesn’t have some of the hard-to-get RSNs such as MASN and Spectrum SportsNet LA.

Carl, hope this helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
