TV Answer Man, I have a Roku. Do you know what free sports they have on the Roku Channel? Anything good? I am 85 years old and I don’t like to spend money!! — Harold, Peoria, Illinois.

Harold, The Roku Channel, a free, ad-supported streaming service, is available to Roku TV and device owners, and non-Roku owners. You can watch more than 400 live (and free) channels on the Roku Channel which can be viewed on the Roku app or via the web here

But let’s take a dive into the Roku Channel’s sports lineup which is very impressive for a free streaming service (although you’re not going to find ESPN or any other sports network that charges a high fee for carriage.)

How Many Free Sports Channels Are On the Roku Channel?

The Roku list includes 46 different free sports networks including CBS Sports HQ, a 24/7 sports news and highlights service from the aforementioned network; Fox Sports, which offers a mix of studio and news shows from the network; NBC Sports, which airs shows such as The Dan Patrick Show and the Dan Le Batard Show, among other NBC Sports-produced programming; the NFL Channel, the league’s free streaming service featuring classic games and news and info shows; the MLB Channel, baseball’s free service featuring its classic games and other programming; The Rich Eisen Show, a chat show starring the former ESPN anchor; and the NHL channel, hockey’s free channel for classic games, highlights and related information.

(Note: The NFL Channel is different from the NFL Network; and the MLB Channel is different from the MLB Network.)

In addition to networks from those well-known brands, The Roku Channel also has free offerings from such niche networks as PBTV (Pickleball TV); FIFA, a channel devoted to international soccer; GolfPass, which highlights the latest news in golf; PHLY, which features local Philadelphia sports writers discussing the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and 76ers; and CHGO, which does the same for Chicago area sports teams.
