Max to Add 10 New Titles This Week – What Are the 2 Most Interesting?

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (October 13-19, 2024) plans to add 10 new TV shows and movies to its lineup.

Here are the two most interesting, in my humble opinion:

MaXXXine (2024) – Max 
MaXXXine, the horror film starring Mia Goth and directed by Ti West, features Goth’s character, Maxine Minx, trying to transition from the adult world to mainstream Hollywood in the 1980s. (Maxxxine Minx was first seen in the first two films in West’s trilogy, X and Pearl.) However, her journey is sidetracked when she is apparently stalked by the infamous ‘Night Stalker’ serial murderer who terrorized the city during that decade. I saw MaXXXine in the theater and while it may not be as good as X and Pearl, it’s an entertaining romp with plenty of jump scares and send-ups of the go-go 80s and the decade’s slasher genre. Highly recommended and you don’t have to watch the first two in the trilogy to enjoy the third. Debuts on Max on October 19.

I Am Not A Monster: The Lois Riess Murders (HBO Original)
Speaking of killers, and unfortunately, the real kind here, Max will debut a documentary on Minnesota grandmother Lori Riess who killed her husband and went on a crime spree six years ago. In an interview, Riess attempts to defend her actions, blaming mental health issues and other problems that many have but rarely use as excuses for committing societal mayhem. Should be interesting to see how the filmmakers portray her — and how did Netflix not get this show! Debuts on Max on Tuesday, October 15.
