TV Answer Man, do you know when DIRECTV will start doing 4K programming for the Olympics from Paris? And what will be on for the first day? — Tony, Las Vegas.
Tony, DIRECTV is one of several TV providers that will offer USA Network’s 24/7 4K feed of the 2024 Summer Olympics Games. (The others: Altice (Optimum TV), Cox, Dish, Fubo, Verizon, and YouTube TV.) DIRECTV’s satellite service and DIRECTV Stream will begin its 4K Olympics broadcasts on Wednesday, July 24, at 8 a.m. ET.
The first day of 4K will be men’s soccer heavy starting with an Argentina-Morocco game at 9 a.m. ET (following an 8 a.m. ET Olympics preview show.) Then, Egypt will play the Dominican Republic at 11 a.m. ET. At 1 p.m. ET, there will be two games: Japan vs. Paraguay and Iraq vs. Ukraine. And at 3 p.m. ET, the United States will play France while Mali will face Israel. There will also be some rugby action in 4K on Wednesday from the USA Network.
On day two (Thursday, July 25), there will be more rugby, women’s soccer and handball, among other sports. The 4K coverage from USA Network will continue each day until August 11 when the Games are scheduled to end.
The USA Network, which is operated by NBCUniversal, will emphasize Team USA and team sports like Basketball, Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Volleyball, and Water Polo.
Tony, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
