What Happened to the Longhorn Network?

TV Answer Man, what happened to the Longhorn Network? I can’t find it in my lineup anymore!! — Todd, Corsicana, Texas. 

Todd, the cable/satellite version of the Longhorn Network, a joint venture of ESPN and the University of Texas, ceased operations on June 30, 2024. That’s when the college officially became a member of the SEC, leaving the Big 12 behind.

As part of the requirement to join the conference, UT had to agree to give up its proprietary broadcast rights to certain live events, such as football and basketball games. Consequently, without the live games, there was no point in continuing the cable/satellite channel.

However, the Longhorn Network lives on as a free streaming service available on mobile, streaming devices, tablets and computers. The new Longhorn Network provides live coverage of UT-related events such as press conferences as well as game highlights, exclusive behind-the-scenes access to sports programs, interviews with players and coaches, and replays of the greatest games in ESPN’s Longhorn Network archive.

“As we set out on our new adventure in the Southeastern Conference, we wanted to make sure we had a fitting home for video content that tells the story of our athletics department,” said Chris Del Conte, UT vice president.

The Longhorn Network app can now be downloaded from Amazon’s Fire TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Roku, the Google Store and Apple’s iTunes store. You can see it on the web here.
