Netflix this week (June 30-July 6, 2024) plans to add 45 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the four most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F — Netflix Film
Eddie Murphy is back as Alex Foley, the street-smart Detroit detective turned Beverly Hills transplant in this fourth installment in the movie series. Arguably Murphy’s best character over the years, he is joined again by the usual BHC gang of idiots including Judge Reinhold, Bronson Pinchot, John Ashton and Paul Reiser. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the hard-working Kevin Bacon are also along for the ride. The previews look predictable but who expects Kubrickian plot twists from an Eddie Murphy movie?! (The storyline features Murphy returning to BH because his daughter’s life has been threatened.) Debuts Wednesday, July 3 which makes this the perfect popcorn movie for the fourth of July in my household.

SPRINT — Netflix Sports Series
The Netflix original doc follows the world’s top sprinters as they prepare and compete to get to this month’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The show will focus on Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, and Shericka Jackson as well as runners from Jamaica, the UK, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Italy. The team behind Netflix’s critically acclaimed Formula 1 documentary series, Drive to Survive, are doing this one so it should be good. Debuts Tuesday, July 2.

American Hustle (2013)
David O. Russell’s brilliant 2013 comedy-drama based on the real-life FBI Abscam sting operation in the 1970s. Christian Bale and Amy Adams star as two con artists who are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help the agency set up corrupt politicians, including the mayor of Camden, New Jersey, played by Jeremy Renner. The film is a dazzling display of human folly and Russell has never been better. The great cast also includes Jennifer Lawrence, Jack Huston and Robert DeNiro. Debuts Monday, July 1.

Lost (All six seasons.)
The ABC dramatic series that ran six seasons from 2004 to 2010, chronicles the lives of a group of airline passengers whose plane crashes on a mysterious remote island somewhere between Australia and Los Angeles. (Or could the island be somewhere else? Hint.) Created in part by the genius known as J.J. Abrams (Fringe, Mission Impossible 3, Super 8), the show was a primetime sensation for the network thanks to the spellbinding plot and the charismatic and compelling ensemble cast including Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Terry O’Quinn, Maggie Grace and Josh Holl0way. Debuts Monday, July 1.
