The rumored partnership between Roku and Major League Baseball is official with the league announcing today that Roku will begin exclusively streaming free Sunday games on May 19 with a Boston Red Sox-St. Louis Cardinals matchup at 1:05 p.m. ET.
Update: MLB has deleted the page with the announcement. We will update this article if we get more information.
Update #2: Roku and MLB issue an official announcement at 3:38 p.m. ET. Deal is done. See list of games below.
MLB said the Sunday games will be available every Sunday morning on the Roku Channel, a free channel which is available on multiple streaming devices including Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV and RokuChannel.com. (If you are away from home, you can watch the Roku games at the Roku Channel web site or the Roku mobile app.)
The league also said the games will be available to those with an MLB.TV subscription. There are no blackouts for these games for Roku and/or MLB.TV users.
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand earlier had reported that Roku was in “advanced talks” with Major League Baseball to stream a schedule of exclusive Sunday morning regular season games which were available last year on Peacock. (The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Flint earlier reported that Roku had emerged as a “suitor” for the games.)
MLB today did not reveal additional Sunday games on the Roku Channel besides the May 19th contest. The league also said the games will be morning games although the Red Sox-Cardinals contest is now scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET. The TV Answer Man will update this story if we get more details.
Update: Here are the games that will be streamed on Sunday mornings and afternoons on The Roku Channel:
