TV Answer Man, we have been without our Fox station on DIRECTV for months and now the Super Bowl is coming!! My question is can we watch the Super Bowl on the Fox app like you have written about or will it be blacked out because our Fox station isn’t on DIRECTV now because of their money fight? Please let us know as soon as possible!! — Cheryl, Providence.
Cheryl, DIRECTV on October 21, 2022 lost a few dozen local TV stations due to a carriage dispute with their owner, Mission Broadcasting. (The blackout also affects DIRECTV Stream and U-verse.) The stations, which are managed by Nexstar, are in 25 markets (including 12 Fox affiliate markets) including New York. Providence, Rhode Island, Little Rock, Albuquerque, Abilene, Texas, Albany, New York and Erie, Pennsylvania, among others. You can see a complete list here.
In addition, the satcaster has been without two White Knight-owned stations since October 7, 2022 in a separate fee fight — a NBC station in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a Fox station in Tyler/Longview, Texas.
The disputes are now roughly four months old but DIRECTV viewers in the 13 markets with the Fox affiliates may be more upset than ever because the network will broadcast Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. They will not be able to watch the game on their TV provider of choice because of the blackouts unless a new agreement is signed before kickoff. (And there’s no indication of that happening.)

However, there will still be two ways they can watch the game.
One, an antenna which can pick up the local Fox affiliate signal.
Two, Fox will stream the Super Bowl in HD and 4K on the Fox Now and Fox Sports apps and they will not require authentication, meaning you won’t have to input a user name/password from your TV provider.
Some readers in the 13 affected markets have asked me if the Fox stream will be blacked out to them because of the disputes between DIRECTV and Mission and White Knight. But a DIRECTV spokesman told me that there will be no blackout on the apps.
Cheryl, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!

Is there a way to call a broken contract with Dtv and leave without penalty?
I tend to side with the provider over the networks. I do not want to pay any more than i have to. The tv provider only passes off the higher cost to carry the networks to subscribers.
When HDTV first started rolling out, my Louisiville stations were broadcasting it, but our CATV company at the time, Insight, had not added it to their system. I bought a corner reflector antenna at a Radio Shack that was going out of business and mounted it on the roof. Even after they added HD to the cable system, I left the antenna up. And this is the reason I did.
Mission and Direct just seem to blame each other. All our ABC stations were taken away several months ago but yet we still have to pay. Seems to me that should be stealing…greedy bastards
Feel Nancie Smith & Dennis Thatcher-Mission Broadcasting and White Knight Broadcasting been using Duane Lammers Max Retrans as the reason why DIRECTV and DISH is not able to carry the Mission and White Knight TV stations. If Mission and White Knight has no intention of letting allowing DIRECTV and DISH to carry the Mission and White Knight TV stations ever again, recommend Mission and White Knight be better offing selling the TV stations right now if Mission and White Knight has no intention of letting allowing DIRECTV and DISH to carry the Mission and White Knight TV stations ever again because Nancie Smith & Dennis Thatcher-Mission Broadcasting and White Knight Broadcasting would rather keep continuing on using Duane Lammers Max Retrans to assist Mission and White Knight for their retransmission consent negotiating needs. Nancie Smith & Dennis Thatcher-Mission Broadcasting and White Knight Broadcasting be better selling all of the TV stations right now to someone else that who would be willing to deal with very stiff concessions including pledging and promising to permanently fire cut ties and or never ever agreed to use Duane Lammers Max Retrans, ATV Broadcast, and or Symphony Media Audit International for consultants to assist broadcasters and broadcasting group for their retransmission consent negotiating needs.
Hope you’ll understand me about suspicions about Mission and White Knight using Duane Lammers Max Retrans to assist them for their retransmission consent contract negotiating needs.
Aware Duane Lammers was with Nexstar when Nexstar and Mission pulled TV stations from Cox and Cableone(Sparklight) in 2005 and got connected and associated with Communications Corporation Of America/White Knight and Granite/Malara both under Silver Point Capital control in dealing with retransmission consent negotiations for Communications Corporation Of America/White Knight and Granite/Malara both under Silver Point Capital in 2008.
This is why its very hard and difficult to avoid mentioning and referencing Duane Lammers as he is associated with both Mission and White Knight in the past history.
jamesjimcie, Maybe they ALL should be Investigated,
FINED, and Put OUT of Business by the FCC Commission for
Collusion, Fraud, Gouging and
Basically SCREWING EVERYONE.
WHY do we need them in the first place ??
The channels can be picked up by the Cable and Satellite companies
for FREE and NO Negotiations like a LOT of OTA Local Stations.
Go back to the Beginning:
TV Stations make their money from COMMERCIAL.
This would LOWER the Cable and Satellite bills
and bring them back from OUTER SPACE.
People could again ENJOY TV as it was intended.
