DIRECTV has added eight new channels to its free ad-supported streaming service called MyFreeDIRECTV.
The free service, which is available to both DIRECTV subscribers and non-DIRECTV consumers, now includes more than 80 live channels and on-demand programming. You can watch the free channels by creating a DIRECTV account at DIRECTV.com and then going to the DIRECTV Stream app or this web page.
The eight new channels are: Drool, Hipstr, GoTraveler, America’s Test Kitchen, MagellanTV Now, True Crime Now, History & Warfare Now, and Space Science Now. Below is a short summary of each new addition:
Drool (channel 4356)
Serves up reality shows from celebrity chefs, best-selling cookbook authors, and global culinary adventurers.
Hipstr (channel 4545)
The channel says its ‘alternative entertainment” programming includes “the weirdest and wildest content your friends haven’t heard of yet.” Show titles include Wake & Bake, Starbucks Unfiltered, Castro’s Revolution vs. the World, Mr. Art Critic, and Grip It and Rip It: Skippers. (I think you get the idea.)
GoTraveler (channel 4388)
As the title suggests, GoTraveler features shows that explore new cultures and food.
America’s Test Kitchen (channel 4357)
The channel’s lineup features shows with chefs testing various recipes and explaining why they work.
MagellanTV Now (channel 4482)
Named after the great explorer, the channel focuses on the intersection of history and science.
True Crime Now (channel 4274)
The channel examines how detectives solve crimes and examines famous unsolved cases.
History & Warfare Now (channel 4486)
The channel is devoted to explaining why nations go to war and how their commanders develop strategy.
Space Science Now (channel 4476)
The channel says it focuses on “the mysterious physics of quantum realms.” (Somebody has to do it, right.)
