Amazon’s Prime Video today (April 1, 2026) has added 79 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

American Fiction (2023)
What Kind of Movie: Satire
Who’s In It: Jeffrey Wright, Sterling K. Brown

Jeffrey Wright stars in this smart and sweet satire of racial stereotypes in our culture and literary world. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, American Fiction features Wright as a serious (and somewhat pretentious) author who discovers the ticket to fame and fortune as an African-American writer is feigning he’s a criminal who lives and breathes the hood. The publishing world, filled with white do-gooders, anoint the fake novelist as a literary genius much to Wright’s chagrin. American Fiction is a rare film that challenges perceptions of race and perceptions themselves which makes it worth a watch. There’s also a standout performance by Sterling K. Brown as the newly-out-of-the-closet brother to Wright’s protagonist.

Thief (1981)
What Kind of Movie: Drama/Thriller
Who’s In It: James Caan, Tuesday Weld, Robert Prosky

The 1981 heist film, directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice), stars James Caan as a veteran jewel thief who wants one more big score before settling down. Tuesday Weld plays his girlfriend and Robert Prosky is sensational in a small role as a dangerous gangster. (You’ll also love the score by 1980s synth band, Tangerine Dream.)

The Aviator (2004)
What Kind of Movie: Bio Drama
Who’s In It: Leonard DiCaprio, Kate Beckinsale, Cate Blanchett

The absorbing (if overlong) drama from director Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio as legendary flyboy and billionaire Howard Hughes. DiCaprio is good as Hughes, but Scorsese is the star here with his stylish flourishes on display in nearly every scene. The impressive supporting cast includes Kate Beckinsale, Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda, Willen Dafoe, Jude Law, John C. Reilly and Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn. (But please overlook the casting of Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow. Dear God, Marty.)
