Netflix Adds 29 New Shows & Movies Today: The 3 to Watch

Netflix today (April 1, 2026) has added 29 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

St. Denis Medical (Season one)
What Kind of Show: Medical Comedy
Who’s In It: Allison Tolman, David Alan Grier
The medical mockumentary, St. Denis Medical, is now in season two on NBC but now you can watch its rookie offering on Netflix. St. Denis Medical, which is based at an underfunded Oregon hospital, is not bad thanks to a solid cast including David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman (Fargo) and Kaliko Kauahi. If you like comfort food comedy – and The Office and Parks & Recreation – this one is for you.

American Gangster (2007)
What Kind of Movie: Drama
Who’s In It: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Josh Brolin
The 2007 crime drama from director Ridley Scott stars Denzel Washington as real-life Harlem drug kingpin Frank Lucas and Russell Crowe as the cop who brings him down. Denzel is at his charismatic best as the crime boss; you can’t take his eyes off him. And Crowe is equally good as the randy but relentless detective. (And there are few directors better than Ridley Scott.) Masterful work all around.

Mission: Impossible (1996)
What Kind of Movie: Action/Intrigue
Who’s In It: Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Emmanuelle Beart
Director Brian De Palma’s original Mission Impossible film laid the foundation for the franchise’s success. You might not expect the director of Hitchcockian films such as Carrie and Body Double to adapt to this genre but he pulls it off nicely. Tom Cruise stars as secret agent Ethan Hunt who’s betrayed by his own people and then must go on the run (and nobody runs better in movies than Tom Cruise.) Scenes such as Cruise’s daring wire descent into a computer room and the final train sequence remain gripping nearly three decades later. Note Netflix is adding four other Mission Impossible films on Wednesday.
