Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Peacock and Paramount Plus today (January 15, 2026) are adding 15 new shows and movies to their streaming lineups. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

Star Trek Starfleet Academy
Where to Watch: Paramount Plus (Two episode premiere)
What Kind of Show: Sci-Fi
Who’s In It: Holly Hunter, Robert Picardo, Paul Giamatti

Paramount has the rights to the Star Trek franchise and it plans to ride that horse as long as it can. Star Trek Starfleet Academy, the sixth Star Trek-themed show from Paramount in the last nine years, stars Holly Hunter (pictured above) as the captain of the USS Athena and chancellor of the Starfleet Academy where young cadets compete to be ship officers. The supporting cast includes the great Paul Giamatti as a heavily made-up part Klingon and Robert Picardo as The Doctor, reprising his role from the Star Trek: Voyager series from a time far, far away. Star Trek Starfleet Academy looks like fun and a worthy entry in the franchise.

Ponies
What Kind of Show: Espionage Thriller
Where to Watch: Peacock (All 8 episodes)
Who’s In It: Emilia Clarke, Haley Lu Richardson

Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Haley Lu Richardson (The White Lotus) star as two U.S Embassy secretaries in 1977 Moscow who become CIA operatives after their husbands both die under mysterious circumstances. The pair soon endanger their own lives when their investigation into the deaths uncovers a massive KGB conspiracy. The trailer looks interesting so if you like spy thrillers set during the U.S.-Russia Cold War, this one is for you.

Twisters (2024)
What Kind of Movie: Action/Drama
Where to Watch: Peacock
Who’s In It: Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos

Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones star as rival storm chasers in this excellent remake of the 1996 film, Twister, with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt in lead. Powell again shows he’s ready to assume Tom Cruise’s role as Hollywood’s leading ‘man with a mission’ and Edgar-Jones could become the Julia Roberts of her time. The film also benefits from an expected bump up in CGI effects and strong supporting performances from Anthony Ramos as a storm chaser caught between profits and altruism and Maura Tierney as Edgar-Jones’ trusting mom. Fun film and it will be available in 4K.
