MLB TV, the league’s streaming service, has just decided to make tonight’s playoff-pivotal game between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians free to all out-of-market viewers.
The game, which will start at 6:40 p.m. ET from Cleveland’s Progressive Field, has become a near must-win for the Tigers which has lost eight straight games. Detroit, which once held a 15.5 game lead over Cleveland, is now one game behind the Guardians after losing the first two games of this series.
With just four games left in the season, the Tigers can ill afford to fall behind another game, particularly with the Guardians holding the tie-breaker advantage if the teams finish in a tie when the regular season ends on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
To watch the Tigers-Guardians for free on MLB TV, create a MLB user name and password or use your existing one to stream in on all supported devices. (The game will be blacked out in the Detroit and Cleveland markets.) You can watch the game at the MLB TV site here. Here is a list of supported devices for MLB TV.
Right hander Troy Melton (3-2) is scheduled to pitch tonight for the Tigers while LHP Parker Messick (3-0) is slated to start for the Guardians. Cleveland (-150) is the favorite to win tonight, according to the latest odds.
MLB TV will also offer tonight’s Boston-Toronto game at 7:07 p.m. ET for free. The Red Sox can clinch a playoff win with a victory tonight or a loss by the Houston Astros who play the Athletics today at 3:35 p.m. ET.
