Netflix to Remove 36 Movies In One Week – Here Are the 4 to Watch Before They Leave

Netflix plans to remove 36 movies on October 1, 2025. Here are the four to watch before they leave, in my humble opinion:

American Graffiti (1972)
American Graffiti, directed by George Lucas, is a nostalgic masterpiece that brilliantly captures the essence of teenage life in the early 1960s. Set against the backdrop of a small Californian town on the cusp of change, the film takes its audience on a memorable ride through one summer night, following a group of high school graduates (Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams, among others) as they navigate the challenges of growing up and the uncertainty of the future. It says here this is Lucas’ best film; yes, even better than Star Wars. And don’t forget Paul Le Mat and Harrison Ford. Love this movie.

Dazed And Confused (1993)
Dazed and Confused, the charming and now iconic 1993 comedy from director Richard Linklater about the last day of school in a small Texas town. Linklater has a gift of making the small things in life seem larger than life and there’s no better showcase for his talents than this classic. The terrific ensemble cast includes (pictured above) Matthew McConaughey (whose role as a former student who can’t let go of the past was expanded by Linklater when he saw the young actor shine in the dailies); Jason London as the school’s reluctant QB1; Parker Posey as a senior looking for some freshman revenge; and a very young Ben Affleck as same. Fun movie!

Friday Night Lights (2004)
The TV show starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton (now on Amazon’s Prime Video, by the way) gets all the love, but the original 2004 movie starring Billy Bob Thornton as a Texas high school football coach in mythical Dillon, Texas is just as good. (And guess who plays his wife? That’s right. Connie Britton.) Peter Berg, the showrunner for the TV show, directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay.

The Departed (2006)
The Martin Scorsese 2006 crime drama with Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio playing cat and mouse (and rat) in mob-run Boston. The movie, which captured the Academy Award for Best Picture, has continues to grow in stature over the years thanks to the iconic performances of the three leads and great supporting turns by Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin.
