This is one in a series of articles that will offer recommendations on how to get the best picture from your television. Today, we look at the best picture settings for TCL 4K TVs.
TCL, an electronics company based in China, is not cited often as one of the leading TV brands in the United States, certainly not as often as companies such as Sony, Samsung and LG. But over the last several years, TCL has become one of the leading sellers of televisions here and across the globe thanks to relatively lower prices and the surprisingly good quality of its sets. One industry study late last year found that TCL tied with Hisense as the second leading seller of TVs worldwide, trailing only Samsung. With so many TCL TVs in home, it’s a good idea to explore the best picture settings for TCL TVs.
Why It Matters to Calibrate Your TCL 4K TV
While TCL TVs may not cost as much as some models from companies such as Sony, a full-featured, large-screen TCL 4K set might set you back nearly over $1,000. So you want assurances that you are getting the biggest bang for your buck. If the picture is less than what it can be, you might as well spend considerably less for a lesser brand model. So let’s examine some recommendations for picture settings in your TCL 4K TV.
And as we have noted in our articles on other TV settings, these are recommendations and not rigid requirements. If you don’t like the way your TV looks after making these adjustments, please change them to your satisfaction by selecting Reset in your Advanced Settings under Picture. This is your viewing experience. Now, that said…
The Best Picture Settings For TCL 4K TVs
Picture Mode
— Movie or Cinema will deliver the best picture when you bring your TCL set home.
— If the movie is in HDR, High Dynamic Range, try HDR Dark.
— If you’re watching sports, use the Sports mode to reduce motion blur.
— Finally, if you’re playing games, Gaming.
Brightness
— If the room is bright, try a setting between 70 and 100.
— If the room is dark or dimly lit, set Brightness at 40-60.
— If your TCL TV has an ambient light sensor, you can try disabling Adaptive Brightness.
Contrast
— Between 85 and 90 is the sweet spot. This will bring out the difference between bright and dark areas on screen without losing detail.

Color
Between 45 and 50. Be careful you don’t oversaturate the colors, a temptation that some viewers have. You want the colors looking realistic. not out of a coloring book.
Hue/Tint
Zero is best.
Sharpness
Like Color, some people tend to set Sharpness higher than needed. But the best setting is between 0 and 10 for a TCL set, a bit lower than you would set it for other brand TVs. If you go higher, the picture will start to look jagged and edgy.
Color Temperature
Warm should work best on a TCL TV. That will give you a more realistic and cinematic picture.
Motion Settings
If you’re watching sports, 2-4 should reduce motion blur. If a show is non-sports, set the Motion settings to Off to avoid the Soap Opera Effect.
Gamma
Set to 2.2 which will work best in all lighting situations.
Finally, if you’re in the market for a TCL TV, here’s an Amazon link to some TCL sets of different sizes and models. The TV Answer Man site will receive a small commission from the sale of a set from this link.
Happy viewing, everyone, and stay safe.
