TV Answer Man, does DIRECTV’s MySports plan have MASN? I will sign up before baseball’s opening day if they do. – Jimmy, Bowie, Maryland.
What Is DIRECTV’s MySports?
Jimmy, DIRECTV’s MySports, a ‘skinny’ bundle designed to attract cord cutters, offers more than 25 national sports and news channels including ESPN, ESPN+, Fox Sports, TBS, TNT, truTV, MLB Network, NFL Network and NBA TV, among others. The monthly cost of MySports is $69.99 and you can order it at DIRECTV Stream’s web site.
Earlier this month, DIRECTV added 20 regional sports networks in a MySports add-on plan called MyHome Team. The list included 16 FanDuel Sports channels, Altitude, Chicago Sports Network, the Texas Rangers Sports Network and Marquee Sports Network.
On March 27, MLB’s opening day, DIRECTV added Spectrum SportsNet, the regional TV home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Spectrum SportsNet LA, the regional TV home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the five MLB team channels for the Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.
High-profile RSNs such as the Yes Network, SNY, NESN and your local channel, MASN, the regional TV home of the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals, are still not available in the MySports plan.
Why Isn’t DIRECTV Offering More RSNs?
I’m sure that DIRECTV would like to offer all the regional sports networks but it takes two to tango. The holdouts are likely asking for too much money or perhaps are bound by contractual restrictions with other TV providers. Either way, it makes MySports less than a complete package.
