TV Answer Man, do you know if you can watch F1, Formula 1 racing in 4K this year? – Steve, Fairfax, Virginia.
Steve, the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship race schedule begins this Sunday (March 16) at midnight ET with the Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix. ESPN will broadcast the race in the United States starting at 11:55 p.m. ET on Saturday (March 15). In fact, every 2025 F1 race will be live on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.
But will they be available in 4K, you ask?
Will ESPN Air F1 In 4K?
ESPN has not said if the races will be in 4K but it has never done auto racing in the format. So, the odds are not good. The sports network has only produced select college football and basketball games in 4K.
However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to watch this year’s Formula 1 races in 4K.
How to Watch F1 Races In 4K
F1 TV, the standalone streaming package which includes every Formula 1 race, will offer live 4K coverage of the complete 2025 schedule with its Premium plan. The cost is $129.99 a year or $16.99 a month, but you don’t need a pay TV package that includes the ESPN channels; every race will be shown live on the F1 TV app or at its web site.
In addition to 4K race broadcasts, F1 TV’s Premium plan provides:
* Multiview. You can watch the race from multiple perspectives and angles on one screen. (Multiview is available on compatible iOS and TVOS devices.)
* Live onboard cameras.
* All F1 sessions (pre-race trials) for free.
* Live team radios so you can hear each driver communicate with his team during the race.
* Race replays.
* Stream on up to six devices at the same time.
Note that F1 TV’s two other plans, Access ($29.99 a year) and TV Pro (84.99 a year) do not include 4K feeds. Also see this page for which streaming devices are compatible with the F1 TV app/site which can be downloaded from the web, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, Roku and Chromecast. (To watch F1 TV in 4K, you will need a 4K-enabled TV and/or streaming device.)
