Feb. 16-22: Max to Add 16 New Titles This Week – Here Are 3 You Can’t Miss

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (February 16-22, 2025) plans to add 16 new TV shows and movies to its lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

The White Lotus checks in for season three on Max.

The White Lotus – Season 3 (HBO/Max Original Series)
There arguably has been no more entertaining, albeit pulpish, TV series over the last few years than the first two seasons of The White Lotus. Created, written and directed by Mike White, the social satire set in a luxury hotel has featured an array of memorable performances from Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, Aubrey Plaza, Sydney Sweeney and many others. Now in season three, White pulls together a new cast including Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Parker Posey, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, and Michelle Monaghan. They will head to a resort in Thailand where barbs will be hurled, bodies will collide (in more ways than one), and, in all likelihood, someone will perish under mysterious circumstances. Debuts on Max on Sunday, February 16.

Pearl An X-traordinary Origin Story (2022)
In this prequel to X, Mia Goth stars as an unhinged young woman whose unrelenting ambition to become a movie star leads to a bloodbath on a Texas farm in 1918. Director Ti West takes a decidedly different turn with Pearl, bathing the film with modern splashy (pun intended) colors despite the trip back in time. The result is an unsettling but riveting portrait of a psyche spiraling out of control as it seeks purpose. Pearl may be the superior film in the X trilogy (Maxxine, the third in the trilogy, opened in theaters in 2024.) with Goth delivering one of the best (and hypnotic) performances of the decade. (Martin Scorsese calls Pearl “mesmerizing” and, as usual, he is right.) Debuts on Max on Sunday, February 16.

We Beat the Dream Team – HBO Sports Documentary

The 1992 Olympic U.S. men’s basketball team, which featured Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, may have been the best hoops squad ever assembled, breezing their way to a Gold Medal while barely breaking a sweat. However, you may not know that a team of upstart college kids (Penny Hardaway, Chris Webber, Bobby Hurley, etc.) who were hired to scrimmage against the U.S. team actually defeated them in a game. This documentary chronicles the amazing behind-the-scenes contest and how the upset happened. Debuts on Max on Monday, February 17
