Netflix this week (December 22-28, 2024) plans to add five new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the two most interesting, in my humble opinion:

NFL on Christmas – Netflix Exclusive
Netflix was slow to embrace live sports but it will be the talk of the sports world on Christmas Day when it hosts an exclusive doubleheader of NFL games: the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET. Can Netflix fix the embarrassing technical issues which plagued the live broadcast of last month’s Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight? And what will happen if it can’t? Will Netflix step back from live sports altogether? (Probably not. It just won the U.S. TV rights to the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031). On Christmas, there will be more at stake than just the playoff positions of the teams. Debuts on Christmas, December 25.

Squid Game, season two – Netflix original
And debuting the day after Christmas is season two of Netflix’s surprise hit, Squid Game, a drama featuring hundreds of broke contestants who go for broke by risking their lives for cash prizes in a game show. The South Korean-made series is a biting but sometimes inspiring commentary on class warfare and the human survival instinct. Debuts Thursday, December 26.
