NHL Reporter Anna Dua Takes a Spill
Anna Dua, a SportsNet reporter who covers hockey, became the news last week when she took a major face plant in front of the New York Rangers team as they prepared to face the Toronto Maple Leafs. She managed to survive the fall and continue her reports during the game, albeit somewhat red-faced. To learn more, click here.
Miami’s Trish Christakis Vogues On Esquire Cover
Trish Christakis, the Miami-based sports reporter who went viral at last month’s Monday Night Football game, is this month’s cover girl on the Greek edition of Esquire Magazine. Says here it won’t be long before the Miami CBS affiliate journo is network-bound.
Ex-ESPNer Sam Ponder Rips ‘Boys’ In Girls Sports
Sam Ponder, who hosted ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown before being fired amid controversy last year, says she’s tired of watching her middle school daughter have to play basketball against a biological male identifying as a female. “It’s happened many times now living in NYC,” she wrote on the social media site X. “Yet another basketball game today where my middle school daughter is guarding an obviously naturally born boy in a girls tournament. The parents cheer while the boy is physical and dominant against the girls. The all girls team loses. We’ve taught our kids to never make fun of the kid… to always be kind and loving. That the parents are the problem. That no kid is born in the wrong body. But if I’m honest, watching my daughter get posted up by a boy whose parents have deceived him in this way is maddening.” Some critics of the Ponder firing say she was let go because of her conservative views, particularly on biological males in women’s sports. ESPN denies the allegation.
Oregon’s Olivia Cleary Does an 86 to the 6-7 Crowd
Olivia Cleary, an Oregon-based TV reporter, was trying to do a halftime report last Saturday during the Oregon State-Lafayette game when a bunch of young fans started repeatedly yelling, ‘6-7,’ ruining her shot. (Should have gone into Katie Porter mode.) Despite the fan interference, Cleary pressed on, earning her plaudits and recognition from numerous publications such as People Magazine here. (And in case you don’t know, 6-7 is a popular term with young people these days; it means nothing but kids like to say it to confuse their elders.)
Lucy Burdge Flips For Sports Wagering
The rise of legal sports gambling has spawn a cottage industry for attractive young women who dish out wagering advice to eager young men. Perhaps the best known of the gambling gals is DraftKings’ Lucy Burdge who posts a daily video of her picks which includes the camera flipping upside down once while she walks and talks. She’s never explained why, as far as I can tell, but the gimmick, her wagers, and other… factors, has helped her amassed more than 81,000 followers on X and countless more elsewhere. You can see her Instagram page here.
This Week’s Pathetic Excuse to Post a Sophie Cunningham Video
The Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham is not an announcer – yet – but we thought it would be nice to check in to see how she’s recovering from her leg injury. Apparently pretty, pretty, pretty good.
