Netflix this week (December 8-14, 2024) plans to add 15 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion.
Carry-On
Taron Egerton stars as a TSA agent whose Christmas Eve routine is disrupted when a passenger (Jason Bateman) instructs him not to inspect a mysterious suitcase or he will kill his pregnant girlfriend (Sofia Carson). The cat-and-mouse game begins as Egerton contemplates whether he should alert airport authorities while Bateman says he will raise the stakes if he does. It’s a great premise and the trailer looks equally impressive. Must watch here. Debuts December 13.
Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…
Comedian and actor Jamie Foxx experienced a mysterious illness a few years ago that apparently nearly killed him. The star of Ray and In Living Color has never talked about what happened. That is, until December 10 when he will reveal all in this Netflix comedy special. Debuts December 10.
Maria (2024)
Angelina Jolie stars as the virtuoso opera singer Maria Callas in this Netflix original film. Maria portrays the performer during her self-imposed exile in Paris in her later years. And while that may not seem particularly interesting to some, Maria’s director, Pablo Larraín, did wonders with previous biofilms of iconic but enigmatic women (Jackie, Spencer) and the early reviews are glowing for both Maria the film and Jolie’s performance. Debuts Wednesday, December 11.
