Amazon’s Prime Video Adds 118 New Titles Today – Here Are the 4 Best

Amazon’s Prime Video today (December 1) added 118 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the four best, in my humble opinion:

The Batman (2022)
Just when you thought that the Batman saga had been exhausted, director Matt Reeves stepped up with this absorbing 2022 gem starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader fighting crime in Gotham City. The film, which matches director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy) in moodiness and atmospherics, breaks some new ground with its portrayal of Batman as trauma survivor and Paul Dano as a deeply psychotic Riddler. The Batman is too dark for the kiddies but it’s a faithful continuation of the graphic comic book series.

After Hours (1985)
The 1985 comedy/drama from director Martin Scorsese stars Griffin Dunne as an uninspired computer data entry worker who yearns for excitement in his life and, unfortunately for him, gets more than he can handle during a wild after-dark journey in a nightmarish Manhattan. Along the way, Dunne’s worker-bee is enticed, and sometimes entrapped, in bars, diners and matchbox apartments by the likes of Rosanna Arquette, Catherine O’Hara, Teri Garr, Cheech and Chong and John Heard. After Hours will make you laugh, sometimes cringe, and definitely make you think twice before deciding to head out on your own for a nighttime spin around the block.

Fatal Attraction (1987)
The 1987 drama from director Adrian Lyne that did more to curb adultery than any 1,000 sermons. Michael Douglas plays an attorney whose life is turned upside down when he has an affair with a disturbed book editor (Glenn Close) who’s never met a rabbit she liked. The film is a taut and juicy depiction of what people will do when emotions are stretched and temptation is dangled.

Rain Man (1988)
Tom Cruise stars in this Barry Levinson-directed comedy/drama about a hustler (Cruise) who kidnaps his autistic long-lost older brother (Dustin Hoffman) when he learns their late father left an entire inheritance to him. The film becomes a lesson in blood ties and personal awakenings when the two set out on a cross- country trip to Los Angeles. In lesser hands, and a lesser cast, Rain Man could have resulted in a run-of-the-mill buddy movie albeit with a twist (autism.) But Cruise and Hoffman are so great together that their relationship touches your heart as well as offer some life lessons. Levinson also shows why he was one of the great directors of the 1980/90s (although highly underrated) with some fabulous set pieces (particularly the Vegas scenes). Great film!
