Max to Add 114 New Titles In October 2024 – Here’s the 3 That I Will Watch

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, plans to add 114 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup in October 2024. Here are the three most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:

MaXXXine (2024)
MaXXXine, the horror film starring Mia Goth and directed by Ti West, features Goth’s character, Maxine Minx, trying to transition from the adult world to mainstream Hollywood in the 1980s. (Maxxxine Minx was first seen in the first two films in West’s trilogy, X and Pearl.) However, her journey is sidetracked when she is apparently stalked by the infamous ‘Night Stalker’ serial murderer who terrorized the city during that decade. I saw MaXXXine in the theater and while it may not be as good as X and Pearl, it’s an entertaining romp with plenty of jump scares and send-ups of the go-go 80s and the decade’s slasher genre. Highly recommended. Debuts October 19.

Trap (2024)
Josh Hartnett stars as a father who accompanies his teen daughter to a pop star’s concert in Philadelphia only to soon discover it’s a trap for a notorious serial killer. The film, directed with characteristic puck by the master of the twist, M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Old), works largely because of Hartnett’s flawless performance as the Dad in distress. He’s become a great leading man and, despite his character’s flaws (no spoilers here!), you root for him as he tries to solve his dilemma. I also saw this in the theater. It’s not the best Shyamalan, but I would rank it in his top five. Debuts October 25.

Salem’s Lot (2024) (Max Original)
Lewis Pullman stars as Ben Mears, an author who returns to his childhood home in search of inspiration. However, instead of a muse, he discovers a vampire who is preying upon the town. Based on the Stephen King novel, the film was originally scheduled to be released in 2022 but suffered some Covid-related production delays. The actors’ strike in 2023 caused yet another delay but it will finally get its showcase when it debuts on Max on October 3.
