Max Adds 73 New Movies Today – Here’s the 3 Best

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, is adding 73 new movies to its lineup today. Here are the three best, in my humble opinion:

Lost in Translation (2003)
Lost in Translation is a hidden gem from director Sofia Coppola (Priscilla) who captures the human need for connection through the weary eyes of an over-the-hill TV actor (Bill Murray) and a beautiful ingenue (Scarlett Johansson). Set in the over-crowded but still isolating city of Tokyo, the film’s delicate exploration of cross-cultural encounters, coupled with Murray and Johansson’s on-screen chemistry, evokes an indelible and bittersweet emotional resonance. Beautiful, charming movie.

The Social Network (2010) 
Director David Fincher’s brilliant take on narcissism, ambition and, ultimately, unrelenting arrogance through the lens of young Mark Zuckerberg as he builds Facebook while shedding friendships and his moral compass. Jesse Eisenberg is flawless as Zuck but don’t forget the fun supporting performances by Justin Timberlake as Napster’s Sean Parker and Armie Hammer as both of the Winkelvoss twins who claimed the Facebook founder ripped them off.

Black Swan
And speaking of ambition, Natalie Portman hits career peak with this astonishing portrayal of a young ballet dancer whose zeal to succeed leads to self-doubts and ultimately madness. The quest to become a star has been the subject of countless films over the years but director Darren Aronofsky turns the genre into a horror film scarier than 100 slasher flicks.
