Max, the streamer that will go from HBO Max to the new moniker on May 23, announced today that it plans to add 134 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup in June 2023. Here are the four most interesting, in my humble opinion.

The Idol
The buzzy new drama series stars Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny’s daughter) as a pop queen whose career is derailed by mental issues. She turns to a mysterious nightclub owner (singer The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye) for help but the relationship comes with new twists that she might not be able to handle. Thanks to the co-stars, the series should be a ratings magnet in the 18-34 age group for the HBO unit which normally tends to draw a slightly older crowd. (And the trailer is, uh, a bit risque. See below.) Debuts June 4 and it will be available in 4K with Dolby Atmos.

Avatar: The Way of Water
The theatrical blockbuster comes to home theaters next month. The Best Picture nominee, which was directed by James Cameron, stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet. The 192-minute film is set in the world of Pandora 10 years after the original Avatar movie, which premiered in theaters in 2009. Debuts June 7. (Will also premiere that day on Disney+.) Will be available on Max in 4K and with Dolby Atmos.

And Just Like That…(Season 2)
The Sex and the City ‘girls’ are all grown up and navigating life in their 50s. I can’t say I’m a fan, but there’s no denying the appeal for the urban female sophisticate. Right? Debuts June 22 and will be available in 4K and with Dolby Atmos.

Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allows
Based on the 2018 biography by Mark Griffin, the documentary pulls the curtain back on a closeted career that included starring roles in such classics as Seconds, Giant, Magnificent Obsession and Pillow Talk. While Hudson’s sexuality is no longer a secret now, how he managed to keep it a secret remains one of Hollywood’s untold stories. This documentary promises to tell it in full with new interviews and archival footage. Debuts June 28.
