Why DIRECTV & Comcast Subscribers Shouldn’t Pay $99 For Nationals.TV

TV Answer Man, I want to watch the spring training games for the Washington Nationals but they are not on Comcast. Should I get the $99 plan for Nationals.TV? – Paul, Arlington, Virginia.
Paul, the answer is a resounding no. Let me explain.
Nationals.TV, which is operated by MLB TV, is the new streaming home of the Washington Nationals. You can watch the entire season for $99 or pay $19.99 to watch for a month. With spring training games underway – and the Nats not available on Comcast’s Xfinity TV, DIRECTV or any other pay TV service yet — it’s probably tempting to go ahead and subscribe to Nationals.TV. The team will stream eight spring training games on the service.
However, the odds are very good that Comcast (and DIRECTV, Verizon and a few other TV providers) will add the Nationals as a separate channel by Opening Day on March 26. (But the odds are also good that the providers will not add the team until close to Opening Day. To find out why, see our article here.) If you sign up for Nationals.TV now for $99, you likely will wind up double paying for the team’s games. They will be available in both your TV provider’s plan and Nationals.TV.
Editor’s Note: (Comcast is likely to include the Nationals in its Ultimate plan while DIRECTV will offer it in its Choice and above plans.)
So be patient and hold onto to that $99. By late March, you will likely be able to see the Nationals on Comcast. By waiting, you will miss those spring training games but are eight ST contests worth $99? I don’t think so.
Paul, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!

When Comcast adds the Nationals………or in my case in the Pacific NW, the Mariners, on their own channel, will there also be a $99 fee??
…….or will they just add the channel to the higher tier, which they eventually did with Root Sports NW??
i’m still paying for that higher tier. I’d get rid of it, except if the Mariners come back to it.
Kenneth, Comcast will likely add the Mariners in the Ultimate plan. There wouldn’t be a separate $99 fee.
