Comcast said today that it’s launching a new technology called RealTime4K that will enable its Xfinity TV service to air the Super Bowl in 4K up to 30 seconds faster than other TV providers.
The Super Bowl, which will kickoff at 6:40 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 8, will be available via NBC in upscaled 4K on Peacock and several TV providers including DIRECTV, YouTube TV, Optimum TV, Verizon, Dish, Sling TV and Charter’s Spectrum TV, among others.
Comcast said RealTime4K is a new “ultra-low latency technology” that will close the gap between real time action and what viewers see on their TV screens. With live 4K, as well as live streaming, the images on the home screen can be up to 60 seconds behind real time. But Comcast says its 4K Super Bowl feed will be “just seconds behind the on-field action.”
“Nothing kills watching a live sporting event faster than getting a text or seeing a play on social media before it hits your screen,” said Jon Gieselman, Chief Growth Officer of Connectivity and Platforms for Comcast. “With Xfinity’s new RealTime4K tech, spoilers don’t stand a chance. This ultra-low lag technology means our customers are always ahead of the action. Simply put, when it comes to live sports, no one competes with Xfinity.”
Xfinity TV customers with eligible devices and compatible 4K TVs can watch the Super Bowl with RealTime4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos through a new Peacock 4K channel. The RealTime4K channel, which will also include 4K coverage of next month’s 2026 Winter Olympics, will be located in the on-screen guide on 4K-enabled X1 boxes and the Xfinity Stream app.
“Customers who don’t have a 4K-capable Xfinity X1 TV box will see a prompt on their current device to upgrade and get a new device, ensuring they’re ready to enjoy the Super Bowl and Olympics in RealTime4K,” the cable operator said in a statement. “They can also visit a nearby Xfinity store to exchange their existing X1 TV box for 4K-capable one.
