The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!
Netflix, Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and four other top streamers today (December 19, 2025) are adding 26 new shows and movies to their lineups. Here are the five to watch, in my humble opinion:
Jake vs. Joshua: Judgment Day – Netflix
Release Date: Friday, December 19, undercard starts at 8 p.m. ET
Netflix tonight will exclusively stream an eight-round live boxing match between YouTube influencer turned pugilist Jake Paul and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The Joshua fight will easily be Paul’s toughest since he started boxing in 2020. Joshua, a 9-1 favorite, and former Olympic boxer, is 28-4 with 25 knockouts. His last fight was September 21, 2024 when he was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois. Joshua is listed at 6’6” and 245 pounds. Paul, who is listed at 6’1” and 185 pounds (although he has been as much as 40 pounds heavier for some fights.), is 12-1 with seven knockouts.
One Battle After Another – HBO Max
Release Date: Friday, December 19
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in this Paul Thomas Anderson-directed action/comedy about a former revolutionary in hiding who goes on the run when a crazed military officer (Sean Penn) hunts him down. The film, which is likely to receive numerous Oscar nominations, is a showcase for the many talents of Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) as well as DiCaprio who adds a sophisticated comedic touch to his arsenal of skills. The great supporting cast also includes Benicio del Toro, Chase Infiniti as Leo’s daughter, Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza) and Regina Hall.
Breakdown: 1975 – Netflix
Release Date: Friday, December 19
Taxi Driver. Jaws. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Network. Nashville. Dog Day Afternoon. Shampoo. The list of iconic and brilliant movies released in the year 1975 just goes on and on. In this documentary, narrated by Jodie Foster (who was in Taxi Driver), we learn how the cultural upheaval of the time drove filmmakers to break boundaries and make many of the greatest films ever.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour/End of an Era (episodes three and four) – Disney Plus
Release Date: Friday, December 19
Disney Plus last Friday premiered the Taylor Swift Eras concert film and also dropped the first two episodes of a new docuseries on the tour. This Friday, we get episodes three and four. I didn’t see them, but several TV critics have praised the documentary as surprisingly revealing and entertaining. Who knew? (The concert film is still available on Disney Plus.)
Pluribus, Episode 8 – Apple TV
Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul) as the unhappiest person in the world in this much-anticipated sci-fi series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico (the location for Breaking Bad and Gilligan’s Better Call Saul), Seehorn plays a writer named Carol who somehow manages to avoid a global virus that transforms everyone into a happy and contented individual. Her non-conformity provokes concern among the populace who cater to her every need and promise a swift solution for her ‘condition.’ Carol, however, aims to persuade the world that being ‘virus happy’ is not what it’s cracked up to be. I’ve seen the first seven episodes of Pluribus and am happy to declare it the best show currently on TV. Seehorn is funny and sympathetic in the main role and Gilligan, who so flawlessly depicted the criminal subculture in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has now put the entire crazy world in the spotlight.
