TV Answer Man, I can’t believe what happened to Rob Reiner. Do you know where we can watch him in All In the Family? He was so funny in that show. – Marla, Nashville.

Marla, Rob Reiner and his wife were murdered yesterday in their Los Angeles home, possibly by a family member. The news has prompted a few readers to ask The TV Answer Man how they can watch some of the late actor/director’s work including his role in the 1970s CBS comedy, All In the Family.

The iconic sitcom, which aired for nine seasons on CBS from 1971 to 1979, starred Carroll O’Connor as the bigoted but loveable schnook, Archie Bunker. The supporting cast included Jean Stapleton as his wife, Edith, Sally Struthers as his daughter, Gloria, and Reiner as her husband, Mike.

The show, which was created by comedy genius Norman Lear, became a cultural sensation for his comedic turns on the hot social topics of the day such as racism, income inequality and the Vietnam War. When President Richard Nixon captured re-election in a landslide in 1972, some commentators said his victory was driven in part by the ‘Archie Bunker vote,’ meaning white, blue collar workers who were dissatisfied with the rapid change in the culture.

So, where can you catch Rob Reiner’s early work in All in the Family today?

Both Tubi and Pluto TV, the ad-supported free streaming services, carry the show in their lineups. But Tubi only has seasons seven and eight and Rob was not on the show very often at that point. Pluto TV has seasons two and three, both of which have plenty of the Meathead to enjoy.

Marla, I hope that answers your question. And rest in peace to a great performer and director, Rob Reiner.
