The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!
Netflix this week (November 30-December 6, 2025) plans to add 51 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:
Jay Kelly
Release Date: December 5
George Clooney stars in this Noah Baumbach-directed comedy/drama about a famous actor who reflects on his life’s choices after a mentor unexpectedly dies. Adam Sandler plays his manager who accompanies him on his soul-searching journey through Europe. Jay Kelly may sound like a bit too much Hollywood navel-gazing but the early reviews say the Clooney-Sandler (pictured above) chemistry sparks magic on screen, resulting in a poignant and often funny depiction of the fragility and futility of all lives.
Mean Girls (2004) – Mean Girls (2024)
Release Date: Thursday, December 4
Written by 30 Rock’s Tina Fey, who also plays a teacher here, the 2004 comedy stars Lindsay Lohan as a high school student who befriends a gaggle of popular but bitchy classmates played by Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert. The decision leads to a series of misadventures and backstabbing as well as various plots of revenge. Mean Girls is a funny and smart take on high school life from one of America’s greatest living satirists, Ms. Fey.
Then, on the same day as the Mean Girls (2004) release, Netflix will add the musical version of the film with Fey returning as teacher Mrs. Norbury and Tim Meadows back as well as the school principal. Mean Girls, the musical, which was released in 2024, also stars Renee Rapp as Regina George (played by McAdams in the 2004 film) and Busy Philipps as her mom.
Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
Release Date: December 1
Director Kathryn Bigelow’s intense 2012 drama starring Jessica Chastain as a relentless CIA agent who hunts for the masterminds behind the 9/11 attack on America. The film was seen by some as glorifying the extralegal tactics required to obtain leads in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. But it fairly characterizes the pain and zeal felt by the intelligence/military personnel at the time. And Chastain is riveting as a CIA case officer who can’t sit still (literally) until she finds her man. The supporting cast is equally as good with most notable performances from James Gandofini, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, and Joel Edgerton.
