FanDuel Sports Bets On Free NHL & NBA Games
FanDuel Sports Network later this month will offer some live regional broadcasts of NBA and NHL games on free streaming services such as Pluto, Samsung TV Plus and Amazon’s Prime Video.
The company, which is operated by Main Street Sports Group, formerly known as Diamond Sports Group, owns and operates a few dozen regional sports networks. FanDuel Sports said the free games from the RSNs (Regional Sports Networks) will start in mid-November. The games will also be made available for free via off-air antennas.
FanDuel Sports said more free services will be added in the coming weeks. The TV Answer Man will offer more details on this initiative when they become available, such as which games will be offered for free and when.
Pluto TV Goes Out of This World With 321 New Free Movies
Pluto TV, the free streamer, just added 321 movies for November including some award winners such as The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Magnolia, No Country For Old Men, Taxi Driver and Marathon Man. The site, How to Geek, just published the entire list of 321 films which you can see here. Pluto TV, which is operated by the Paramount streaming division of Paramount Global, is a free, ads-supported streaming service which boasts more than 250 live free channels. Pluto can be viewed online here or via an app on Smart TVs, and streaming devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, among others.
Fox’s Tubi Proves Free Can Make Money
I’ve received reader e-mails asking how the free services can stay in business by offering so much programming for, well, free. Well, Fox just announced that its ads-supported free service, Tubi, is already making a profit. To learn more, click here. Tubi is available on your computer, mobile phone or streaming such as Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Xfinity X1 set-tops and Sony and Vizio Smart TVs. The free streamer has a large on-demand lineup of movies and shows as well as live channels in several categories including 24 sports nets. You can watch Tubi here.
Free Kanopy Library Streamer Unveils ‘Noirvember’ Releases
Have you heard of Kanopy? It’s a streaming service that’s available for free via the Kanopy app or the Kanopy web site if you have a library card or you are a university student or professor. The service has hundreds of great (and free) movies and TV shows – and unlike Tubi or Pluto TV – they are all ad free. And Kanopy just announced that it’s adding a slew of noir and neo-noir movies this month including classics such as Sweet Smell of Success, Dial M For Murder, Detour, Fear City and Sudden Fear and modern noir cinema such as No Country For Old Men, Chinatown, The Limey, Mulholland Falls, and Bound. (Film noir, which became popular in the 1940s, is a cinematic genre that features themes of deception and crime with hard-boiled dialogue.) To learn if Kanopy is available through your library, click here.
Amazon’s Prime Video Now Has 48 Free Sports Channels
While subscription streaming services such as HBO Max, Disney+ and Hulu continue to raise prices, the number of ad-supported free streamers continues to grow with offerings such as Pluto TV, Tubi and Amazon’s free channels on Prime Video. Amazon Prime Video’s free lineup, which recently was moved from its now closed Freevee app, includes hundreds of channels including 48 different sports networks. The free sports channels on Amazon include the NFL Channel, the league’s free streaming service featuring classic games and news and info shows (not be confused with the NFL Network); the MLB Channel, baseball’s free service featuring its classic games and other programming (not to be confused with the MLB Network); Fox Sports, which offers a mix of studio and news shows from the network; ESPN 8 – The Ocho, the niche sports channel inspired by the film, Dodgeball; and NBC Sports Now, which airs shows such as The Dan Patrick Show and the Dan Le Batard Show, among other NBC Sports-produced programming. You can watch the free sports channels on Amazon’s Prime Video by clicking on the Live TV banner at the top of the Prime Video app and then scrolling down to the Sports category. You don’t need a Prime membership to watch the free channels.
