Oh My Goff! Bettor Loses $450,000 Due to Late Flag In Sunday Night Football
Fox Sports reports that a DraftKings customer bet $5,000 that Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff would be the first player to score a touchdown in the team’s Sunday Night Football game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. The odds were a 90-1, which is not surprising because Goff hadn’t scored a touchdown all season! (Hmmm…) However, the Lions ran a trick play on the opening drive (Hmmm…) with Goff scoring on a pass from running David Montgomery from the one yard line. The bettor was all set to win $450,000 for his long shot bet, but the refs suddenly convened and ruled that Goff did not properly set before the snap. TD nullified and no $450,000 for you. To learn more about the woeful wager, see the Fox Sports article here.
Dodgers Favorite to Win NLCS Game Two Tonight
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorite to win tonight’s NLCS game two against the Milwaukee Brewers. (LA won game one last night, 2-1.) Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will face the Brewers RHP Freddy Peralta in a battle of All-Star Game hurlers. Fox Sports reports that the Dodgers have -127 moneyline odds to win tonight; the Brewers are listed at +108. The total runs over/under is 7.5.
Maryland Study: Legal Sports Wagering Has Triggered Rise In ‘At Risk’ Behavior
Sports gambling is now legal in Maryland and numerous other states and a new study says that two out of five people who wager on sports are exhibiting ‘at risk’ behavior. “I’ve definitely taken a lot more calls since sports gambling has been legalized over the last two or three years than my previous four years combined at the center,” said Will Hinman, a certified peer recovery specialist with the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling which conducted the study. The study does not define ‘at risk’ behavior but it apparently includes being unable to stop wagering and/or betting money that should be used for more essential items such as rent or mortgages. Has Sports Wagering Caused Manipulation of NASCAR Races?
NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin is concerned that legal sports wagering may have led to some driver teams manipulating races to win bets on points and running positions. “I think some of the sensitivity around this is obviously, probably gambling-focused. Because I know NASCAR is very, very sensitive, as they should be, with that, to make sure everyone’s getting a fair shake. But on the racetrack, I feel as though, as long as you don’t have a bias to one party or another, yeah, I don’t know why you can’t make the best decision for yourself. Because the points are about to reset,” Hamlin said, according to Yardbarker. The driver also suggested that athletes in other sports might make plays to win exotic wagers, such as a QB purposely getting caught for a safety at the end of the game to win the over/under on points. Hamlin’s suspicions may be warranted; Major League Baseball is now investigating two Cleveland Guardians’ pitchers for possible gambling violations.
Hot Women Cashing In On Legal Sports Betting Craze
This will likely not surprise you, but the rise in legal sports betting has created a new cottage industry for extremely attractive women who offer wagering advice. Sports betting is largely done by young men, and where there’s young men with cash to spend, you’ll usually find young women who will help them spend it. The web site, BettingLadies.com, has published this article featuring the top women that male gamblers should follow – not literally, of course. Ariel Epstein ranks first, says the site. Erin Dolan is third.
