TV Answer Man, the NHL season has begun and satellite people on DIRECTV can’t get the full ESPN app for the out-of-market games!!!!! When will this change? I’m losing patience!!!! – Robbie, Tucson, Arizona.
Robbie, the new ESPN Unlimited app has all the ESPN live channel feeds. Both DIRECTV satellite and streaming customers who have ESPN in their plans get free access to those feeds. But streaming subscribers also get free access to ESPN+ which has a slew of exclusive live games plus premium programming such as WWE events and the NHL Power Play, which has more than 1,000 out-of-market games.
DIRECTV’s PR department has said its satellite customers will get access to the ESPN+ programming sometime in the fall, but it hasn’t provided an exact date. Since fall is now starting and extends until December, that has triggered considerable frustration among satellite subscribers.
However, DIRECTV’s X customer service team has just said that the company has begun rolling out full and free access to satellite customers.
“Good news, Bill! As a DIRECTV Satellite subscriber, you will gain access to WWE through ESPN Unlimited. Watch out for the activation email, as the rollout started on October 6th and will continue in the next few weeks,” the customer service team told one customer today.
In past customer responses, the DIRECTV X team suggested the activation delay for satellite was designed to prevent excessive traffic on the new app which could lead to viewing interruptions.
“While it’s already available for DIRECTV Streaming customers, most Satellite customers with a Signature Package will get an activation email before the end of November 2025, as the rollout is being done in stages to make the transition as smooth as possible,” DIRECTV told one customer.
So, Robbie, I can’t tell you exactly when you will get full access to the ESPN app, but at least the rollout has begun.

I finally was able to activate ESPN Unlimited as a DirecTV Satellite subscriber. Now I am wondering when I will receive Disney+ and Hulu? Thanks for any information you can provide.
