Hulu Live & YouTube TV to Carry C-SPAN

C-SPAN has announced that it has signed a carriage agreement with Hulu Live and YouTube TV to carry its three public service channels. They will be added sometime this fall.

The channel said the two live streamers have agreed to pay the same rates that cable and satellite operator pay to carry them.

C-SPAN, which covers the live proceedings of the U.S. Congress and other federal meetings, has sought for several years to have its three channels on live streaming services. Congress even passed a resolution urging live streaming services to carry C-SPAN. (Until now, DIRECTV streaming was the only live streaming service to carry them.)

But the live streamers, which are not under the same federal regulations as cable and satellite, had balked, noting the added expense of carrying them. It’s not clear what changed at Hulu and YouTube TV but the FCC recently rejected a request from broadcasters to impose the same regulatory fees on live streamers that are now on satellite and broadcasters.

“We are proud that this agreement will give millions more Americans access to our unfiltered coverage of the nation’s political process,” said Sam Feist, chief executive officer of C-SPAN.
