DIRECTV to Air ION’s Friday Night WNBA Games

DIRECTV has signed an agreement with Scripps Sports to provide ION’s 15 weeks of WNBA Friday night games starting with tonight’s doubleheader between the Minnesota Lynx and Dallas Wings at 7:30 p.m. ET and the Los Angeles Sparks and Golden State Valkyries at 10 p.m. ET. (The Atlanta Dream-Washington Mystics game will be available in their markets at 7:30 p.m. ET.)
The WNBA games will air on DIRECTV satellite and streaming on channel 305 and U-verse on channel 1068. (DIRECTV’s business customers will also get the games.) DIRECTV says ION’s WNBA coverage will be provided at no extra cost to existing packages that include the channel which is owned by Scripps.
The extra WNBA games will appear in the DIRECTV/U-verse guide adjacent to ION each Friday night. Scripps’ local stations broadcast the WNBA games.
“No matter the service they select, wherever they live or do business, DIRECTV customers can now enjoy an entirely new opportunity to choose from as many as twice the WNBA games on Friday nights they would have otherwise been limited to before,” Rebecca Nelson, senior vice president of content & programming at DIRECTV, said in a press release. “The WNBA is already growing by leaps and bounds, and we’re pleased to bring these new opportunities to current and future fans watching in or out of their homes.”
