Peacock, the NBCUniversal-operated streaming service, plans to add 80 new movies in May 2025. Here are the five to watch, in my humble opinion.

Black Bag (2025)
Release Date: May 2
Michael Fassbender stars as a British intelligence officer who must investigate the possibility of traitors in the government including his wife, played by Cate Blanchett. Directed by arguably the most underrated director of his time, Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag is a taut thriller with characteristic cinematic flourishes from a master auteur. The movie, which fared poorly at the box office despite strong reviews, will be a Peacock streaming exclusive. Don’t miss it.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Release Date: May 1
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Saving Private Ryan stars Tom Hanks as the captain of a World War II unit which must find a single soldier (Matt Damon) while navigating the horrors of war. There’s never been a better film on the sacrifice and unselfishness of America’s military and Hanks is especially good in lead. And the first 15 minutes, which depicts the D-Day invasion, immerses the viewer in battle unlike any scene before or since.

Bridesmaids (2011)
Release Date: May 1
Since we picked three dark crime dramas to start, let’s mix in this 2011 comedy starring Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) at the peak of her zany powers as a single woman in her 30s who turns an upcoming wedding into a series of comic misadventures. The flawless supporting cast includes Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, and for fans still nostalgic for 1970s indie films, the great Jill Clayburgh.

Get Out (2017)
Release Date: May 1
Daniel Kaluuya stars as a young black man who learns some scary secrets about his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) and her family when he visits their home. The Jordan Peele-directed horror/satire became an instant classic for its insightful and suspenseful take on racial paranoia (from both sides here) and miscommunication. Be prepared to laugh, think and occasionally jump out of your seat.

Schindler’s List (1993)
Release Date: May 1
Director Steven Spielberg’s poignant Holocaust drama tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saves the lives of more than a thousand Jewish refugees. It is a haunting and powerful testament to the triumph of humanity and arguably Spielberg’s best film ever.
