Netflix to Add 45 New Releases This Week – Here Are the 3 to Watch

Netflix this week (April 27-May 3, 2025) plans to add 45 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion.

The Four Seasons – Netflix Original Miniseries
Release Date: Thursday, May 1
Steve Carell and Tina Fey star in this adaption of the 1981 movie of the same name which featured Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. The eight-episode Netflix series follows three married couples who embark on a weekend getaway only to discover that one of the pairs is getting a divorce. The supporting cast includes Will Forte and Colman Domingo and even the 89-year-old Mr. Alda makes an appearance. If you like breezy comedy with a biting edge (Fey also co-wrote the series), this one is for you.

American Gangster (2007)
Release Date: Thursday, May 1
The 2007 crime drama from director Ridley Scott stars Denzel Washington as real-life Harlem drug kingpin Frank Lucas and Russell Crowe as the cop who brings him down. Denzel is at his charismatic best as the crime boss; you can’t take his eyes off him. And Crowe is equally good as the randy but relentless detective. (And there are few directors better than Ridley Scott.) Masterful work all around.

Turning Point: The Vietnam War – Netflix Original Documentary
Release Date: Wednesday, April 30
The five-episode Netflix documentary examines the war that torn the nation asunder, from its beginnings with the dubious attacks in the Gulf of Tonkin which triggered the U.S. escalation to the fall of Saigon more than a decade later. The filmmakers chronicle how the Vietnam War was responsible for presidents getting elected, and unelected, tens of thousands of lives lost, and an angry divide among the populace that still exists today.
