Top 4 Must-Watch Streaming Releases, April 7-13, 2025; Netflix, Max, More

The TV Answer Man – Follow me on X.

It’s another busy week in the world of video streaming with dozens of new shows and movies coming to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV Plus, Max, Peacock and Paramount Plus. From dystopian dramas to dark comedies, here are my picks for the four must-watch new streaming releases for the week of April 7-13, 2025.

Your Friends & Neighbors – Apple TV Plus Original Series
Release Date: Friday, April 11
Jon Hamm stars as a recently divorced and unemployed New York hedge fund manager who decides to rob his neighbors’ homes to maintain his lavish lifestyle. The black comedy also stars Amanda Peet as his ex-wife and Olivia Munn as his booty call pal but Hamm is the reason to stream in here. The Mad Man star has managed to eclipse his fame in the AMC series with terrific performances in such shows as Landman, Fargo and The Morning Show.

Black Mirror, season seven – Netflix Original Series
Release Date: Thursday, April 10
The Netflix original anthology sci-fi series inspired by The Twilight Zone returns with spooky tales containing more twists than a Hungarian gymnast. Like its inspired predecessor, every Black Mirror episode doesn’t work. But most do, and when one does, it leaves you staring in the distance. Season seven, which will offer six new episodes, will feature star turns from Paul Giamatti, Cristin Milioti, Emma Corrin and Chris O’Dowd, among others. The Giamatti episode has my attention. Here’s the description from Netflix – ”An innovative system that enables users to literally step into photographic memories of the past leads a lonely man to re-examine a heartbreaking period in his life.”

Hacks, season four premiere. Max Original Series
Release Date: Thursday, April 10
Jean Smart plays Deborah Vance, an aging comedienne (based loosely on Joan Rivers) who must freshen up her act or else face show business extinction. Hannah Einbinder plays Ava Daniels, a young arrogant comedy writer who can’t keep a job because of her stubborn nature. The comedy begins when Deborah hires Ava to write her a new act, but the real charm of Hacks comes from the Mommie/Daughter relationship between the two leads. Smart is terrific as an overbearing performer desperate to stay relevant while Einbinder (the daughter of Saturday Night Live charter member Laraine Newman) is equally good as the rebellious Ava. You’ll laugh and cry with Hacks, sometimes both at the same time. Season four will commence on Thursday, April 10, with the first two episodes.

The Handmaid’s Tale, Season Six – Hulu Original Series
Release Date: Tuesday, April 8
The Hulu original series about female subjugation in a dystopian society stars Elizabeth Moss as a resistance leader in the fight against the state. On April 8, 2025, Hulu will premiere the first three episodes of season six, the last in the series, with the remaining seven installments running every Tuesday until the series finale on May 27. I can’t say the show is my cup of tea but Moss is a terrific actress and there’s no doubt that The Handmaid’s Tale has become an inspiration for many women. Debuts April 8 with three episodes of season six.
