TV Answer Man, is MLB TV ever going to give us a credit for the Opening Day disaster with us not being able to stream the games? – Dale, Albany, New York.
Dale, MLB TV, the league’s online service for out-of-market games, suffered a major meltdown on Opening Day (March 27, 2025) with thousands of fans unable to watch the day’s games due to streaming errors.
MLB TV Makes an Apology Offer
The Cleveland Guardians, whose regional broadcasts are now part of MLB TV’s lineup, quickly provided four free tickets to a 2025 regular season game to make amends with fans who were inconvenienced. And now Major League Baseball has issued its peace offering;
If you give the league $25, it will give you $10 back.
Yes, that’s right. In an e-mail to MLB TV subscribers, the league apologized for the ‘technical issue’ that affected streaming on Opening Day and offered fans $10 off any $25 purchase at MLBShop.com.
”We understand how disappointing this was to fans who were eagerly awaiting the start of the season,” the e-mail states. ”For that, we apologize. MLB fans deserve the best streaming experience possible and we will continue to strive to provide that. To thank you for your continued support of the National Pastime, MLB would like to offer you $10 off any purchase of $25 or more at MLBShop.com…Enter code EWAKAA87SB at checkout on orders above $25.”
MLB TV Subscribers Not Happy With MLB TV’s Offer
As you can probably guess, the offer was not met with open arms.
”Here we screwed up so buy more stuff from us!” wrote @2berhauser on X, the social media site.
”I thought maybe that was a joke. It’s not. This is utterly insulting. MLB shouldn’t have bothered to offer anything. They’re just luring people to buy more. This does not make up for their failure in any way,” added @davidcnick.
”They want people to pay them for their F up? That is hilarious,” wrote @Ed__III on X.
The good news is that MLB TV has operated normally since Opening Day but that seems to be cold comfort for subscribers still outraged by the Opening Day outage.
”(MLB Commissioner Rob) Manfred is just awful,” opined @LootyDjibouti on X.
