Comcast’s Xfinity TV has joined DIRECTV in offering a sports and news plan for $70 a month when combined with Xfinity Internet service. The Comcast plan is $90 a month to subscribers who don’t get the Internet through Xfinity.

The package offers more than 50 broadcast, cable news and sports channels as well as other perks such as free Peacock and 300 hours of DVR storage. The channels include the ACC Network, Big Ten Network, ESPN, FS1, Golf Channel, SEC Network, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, CNBC, CNN, FOX News and MSNBC, among others. The remainder of the lineup consists largely of channels available via an antenna or news and shopping nets.

The only regional sports networks included in the plan are the Comcast-owned NBC RSNs: NBC Sports Bay Area; NBC Sports Boston; NBC Sports California; and NBC Sports Philadelphia. (They are only available in their markets.) TBS and TNT, which offer several high-profile sporting events including March Madness college basketball and NBA, NHL and MLB games, are not in the plan.

Update: A Comcast spokesperson now says only NBC Sports Philadelphia will be included in the plan although the site lists all four NBC RSNs.

Update #2: The spokesperson says the site will be updated to reflect that only NBC Sports Philadelphia will be available.

Like DIRECTV, which last week launched a sports and news package for $70 a month, Comcast is trying to reach cost-conscious consumers who want to watch sports and news without paying for a more expensive bundle with dozens of other channels included. But the $70 monthly rate could still be too much for some, particularly when your RSN may not be included as well as TBS and TNT.

“With Sports & News TV, we’ve brought together top networks for live sports and news and Peacock, the best streaming service for sports fans, to create a new video bundle packed with the best content at an unbeatable price, all accessible within a premium viewing experience that makes it easy for customers to find the content they care about most,” John Dixon, senior vice president of entertainment for Comcast, said in a press release. “Sports & News TV is a terrific option for customers looking for a great value in entertainment without sacrificing their favorite live sports and news channels.”
