The TV Answer Man reported last month that Fox would air the 2025 Super Bowl in upscaled 4K. Now the network has disclosed that the big game will also be available in upscaled 4K for free on Tubi, Fox’s free streaming service.

In a press release today, Fox said:

“As part of the network’s extensive coverage, this year marks the first time FOX Sports rolls out its special takeover of Tubi for The Big Game – inclusive of streaming FOX’s telecast of the Super Bowl on the platform live in 4K. Super Bowl LIX is available to watch on FOX, FOX Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and across NFL digital properties with unauthenticated access across devices.”

The 2025 Super Bowl, which will take place in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 9, will also be available in upscaled 4K on special 4K channels on TV providers including DIRECTV, DIRECTV Stream, Dish, Sling TV, Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Verizon, Cox, YouTube TV, Fubo and Optimum TV.

What Does Fox’s Upscaled 4K Look Like?

Fox’s 4K live sports broadcasts are upscaled from 1080p HDR (High Dynamic Range). Upscaling is the process when one video format is converted to another. Fox takes the 1080p HDR signal and converts it to a 4K format. Upscaling 4K is not considered as good as native 4K, but the inclusion of HDR can offer heightened colors and vividness.

Is It Worth Watching The Games In Upscaled 4K?

Yes. From personal experience, I can assure you the picture is better. The high-def image from a Fox affiliate sometimes lacks detail and makes you wonder if it’s actually in high-def. However, the 4K image removes the blurriness and adds a realistic feel to the picture.
