Sling TV’s Freestream Now Has 39 Free Sports Channels – Here’s a Complete List

TV Answer Man, I read your article on DIRECTV’s free channels. Do you know who has the most free sports channels? DIRECTV has a few sports channels but not that many. Please let me know. I love sports, but I don’t love paying! — Kelly, Boise, Idaho.

Kelly, that’s a great question. One of the fastest developing trends in television over the last few years is the emergence of the free, ad-supported TV service, known as FAST. DIRECTV, which now has 87 free channels on its MyFreeDIRECTV streaming service, is the latest FAST offering.

But there are numerous free services now including The Roku Channel, Pluto TV and Tubi. The companies that own these FAST services are betting they will generate enough advertising revenue to more than offset the cost of paying the channels for their programming.

Sling TV’s Freestream, another free service, now claims to have more than 500 free channels. And the list includes 39 sports-themed channels. As you can probably guess, ESPN nor FS1 are in the lineup — they charge too much to offer for free — but Sling’s free sports lineup is diverse, to say the least, albeit channels you might find on the fictional ESPN 8: The Ocho, seen in the Ben Stiller movie, Dodgeball.

The Freestream sports lineup includes the ACC Digital Network, which offers live and replay coverage of the Atlantic Coast Conference games; SportsGrid, which includes updates on the latest betting odds for sports; Willow Sports, which offers cricket coverage; Rome, which features shows with the sports personality, Jim Rome; and Fuel: Skate, Surf, Snow, which offers skiing and skating and host of other daredevil activities.

The really niche channels include ACL: The American Cornhole League; Wired2Fish TV; and Pickle TV. Yes, there’s something for everyone here. And it’s all free and you don’t have to input a credit card number or even an e-mail address to watch.
