Hulu this week (November 10-16, 2024) plans to add 17 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the two most interesting, in my humble opinion.
FX’s Say Nothing (Exclusive to Hulu)
The nine-episode dramatic series (all nine will be available on November 14) will follow four Irish families who take extreme measures during the bloody warfare between the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland from the 1970s to the 1990s. Based on a non-fiction book about the conflict, the show undoubtedly will stir controversy as it attempts to explain the how and whys behind the gruesome division of countries — and whether the Irish people were justified in resorting to criminal and violent behavior. Debuts on Thursday, November 14.
Ally McBeal – The Complete Series
If you’re under 40, you might not appreciate the impact that Fox’s Ally McBeal series had on the culture in the late 1990s. Starring Calista Flockhart as a lawyer working in a dysfunctional Boston law firm, the show broke ground on the power of women in the workforce while they attempt to balance their maternal instincts. It works as both drama and comedy (but mostly comedy) and the supporting cast (Robert Downey, Jr., Jane Krakowski, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Portia de Rossi, Peter MacNicol et al) is terrific as is Calista in the title role. Debuts Monday, November 11.
