TV Answer Man, MLB TV is now available for half price. Is that a good deal with only two months left in the season? — Dale, Pittsburgh.

Dale, MLB TV, the league’s streaming package of out of market games, is now available for $34.99 with two months left in the season, The league has reduced the price as a time limited promotion to celebrate the 2024 trade deadline which ended on Tuesday. The $34.99 offer is available until August 6.

The MLB TV regular price now is $94.99 so you can get a $60 discount by ordering now. But as you note, there are only two months left in the season. So are you really getting a decent discount?

Here’s how you should look at it: The plan’s monthly option is still $29.99 a month. So if you were to buy the last two months with the monthly price, the total would be roughly $60. But if you get the trade deadline special price, it’s $34.99. That’s still a savings of about $25 for the last two months. It’s not a $60 savings, but $25 isn’t bad.

For $34.99, a MLB.TV subscriber can now watch every remaining 2024 out-of-market regular season game on 400 supported devices, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, computers, smart phones and tablets, among others. MLB.TV also includes thousands of minor league games through the First Pitch or MiLB apps.

Local blackouts still apply in the MLB TV package. By MLB TV rules, you cannot watch the team or teams in your local market with a MLB.TV subscription. You can determine which teams would be blacked out in your zip code here.

However, despite the rules, some MLB TV subscribers use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to skirt the blackouts and the league has admitted to the TV Answer Man that it has never taken legal action against those who do.

Dale, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
