Amazon this month (March 2024) plans to add 112 new TV shows and movies to its Prime Video and Freevee lineups. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

Road House (Amazon Original Movie)
Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this Amazon original remake of the 1989 film that featured Patrick Swayze as a bar bouncer who protects a small town from criminal elements and corrupt businessmen. With Gyllenhaal in lead and Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Go) helming, it should be an interesting and fresh take on the 35-year-old story despite some controversy over whether Amazon ditched plans to release it first in the theaters. Debuts on Amazon Prime Video on March 21. The original Road House is now available on Prime Video.

Ricky Stanicky (Amazon Original Movie)
Zac Efron stars in this Peter Farrelly-directed comedy movie about three guys who blame their past mistakes on an imaginary character named Ricky Stanicky and then must produce said fictional fellow when challenged by friends. (John Cena plays the fake Ricky Stanicky.) Farrelly, who directed and/or wrote such brilliant laughfests as Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, There’s Something About Mary as well as the Oscar-winning Green Book, makes this a must watch.

American Rust – Broken Justice (Amazon original, season two)
Jeff Daniels stars as a sheriff in a small Pennsylvania town who must investigate the possible murder by the son of the women (Maura Tierney) he loves. Showtime cancelled the show in 2022 after one season but Amazon picked it up despite mixed reviews from the critics. Daniels and Tierney are premier TV actors so let’s hope that Amazon sees something worth keeping here that Showtime didn’t. Season two debuts March 28. (Season one is currently not available on a streaming service.)
